Hi,
Looking for a small surface grinder for intermittent use.
I found a b&s 510 which has been sitting for years in a garage, lots of surface rust. Spindle is sealed bearings, and sounds great. However not much else can be assessed because owner doesn't want to dress a wheel and grind much.
Grinding with the existing wheel produces a poor surface finish but that wheel is in terrible shape.
I can't really assess the ways or roller condition because I couldnt take the table off.
So... the price is maybe right at $350. It has a b&s micro mesh chuck which holds well but rusty. It also has micro feed on downfeed adjustment. It was already switched to a single phase motor.
For my purposes and space a 612 or 510 would be fine.
Pass or take the risk do you think?
I'm on the east coast, seems like lots of machines in the $1000-1500 range but I'd like one that can hold a few tenths for parts within its working capacity.
Thanks,
Phil
