I'm still a mechanical engineering student but I was wondering what's the easiest way to prevent abrasive wear?

I assume you mean while grinding your work piece. The answer is, you don't want to prevent the wheel from wearing, but you do want it to wear at a suitable rate, thus keeping sharp abrasive grains exposed and cutting.

The old adage of : A good question, is the surest way for a good answer. You get a D for a good question. Try again, context, environment, application.

Context, my good lad! What mechanism of wear, what grade of material, in what environment, under what time frame, for what purpose, etc.

Is cost an issue (hint - yes, always)? Cosmetics?

Toms' right, the best thing you can learn right now is how to phrase your questions accurately and concisely so that you get the most useful answers.
