When i put an indicator on a dead center workhead spindle with the ROTATION LOCKED OUT,
and pushed on the deadcenter with my hand a moderate push i estimate 12 or
15 pounds I got 1.5 thou......
Then tightened up the outer bearing lock nut in the back very tight and it went to a half thou..
This didnt seen too good...for locked rotor.
( When I push the same ammount on the tailstock center I get zero deflection)
Deassembling I find two pairs of angular contact bearings ...dont really know but I think a
pair of ac
bearings is designed for preload by spacing between the pair , not by wrenching the shaft nut
tighter?
Wondering if the inside edge of the outer race of the outer pair could be lapped down a bit?
I Think there is a tight fit in the casting ,I will be checking that next
Thanks
