The old landis 1 R was a world high class grinder.. Much like a monarch lathe was back in the day for lathe quakity..
Ch models and perhaps most or many country machines don't have such quality.
Yes ball screw and CNC controls make up for a lot, so many newer machines can perform well. perhaps even out perform. but likely few would be as good as an old Landis with having ball screws and stepping motors.
Agree the Monarch was not the only top lathe and perhaps not even the best. but it is hard to find top quality nowadays.
