I have a Walker magnetic chuck which came with my Tripet grinder which is a little strange. Instead of the brass and steel parts being at the same level the brass laminations are lower by 0.2mm (0.008"). I've not come across a chuck like this before and wonder if it was made like this for a special reason?

Wow-that is just normal wear over the years.

If it does not bother you leave it, if it does then grind until the brass and steel is all the same.

Mag chucks with brass non mag sections are the best in my opinion. It is very hard to get mag chuck manufactures to make these any more.

Most just do stainless steel.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it might be wear, but it's so consistent across the chuck that I thought it must have been made like it. However, it does make sense. The machine was used almost exclusively with diamond wheels so probably grinding tungsten carbide. Thankfully the rest of the machine has little wear.
