Not sure if this has been posted before but there is a copy of the Popular Mechanics Boy Mechanic 700 projects up on the project guttenberg site. Couple of plans for lathes and workbenches in there. Plus probably plenty of fodder for science projects for the upcoming school year.

I have a Vol 1 Popular Mechanics the Boy Mechanic copyright 1913 700 things for boys to do, I believe this was the book that Jimmy Dolittle refered to in an interview about his first flying experence, He built a Glider from the plans from this book and then took it out and crashed, never could get it in the air

It has a lot of Information that has been and some that should be forgoten information in it.
My grandfather used the water pipe wood lathe plans slightly modified but it worked.
The water bicycle I always liked that one, Three wine barrels and and an old bicycle

Still have several volumes of those from when I was a kid. Lindsay reprinted them several years ago. They're great.
