Button Man Killer-------1868

L. button was an early builder of hand drawn/hand operated fire pumps-often known as "hand tubs" located in upstate NY. As shown, a high-quality stream could be developed but the manpower requirement to achieve it was great. My Department, Sea Cliff FD had a Remington rotary style hand pumper, quite different than the side-stroke Button. Even after purchase of a steamer the Remington was kept in working order for many years as as back-up.

I volunteer in the restoration shop of the Nassau County Fire Museum which has on loan Farmingdale FD's beautiful "Water Witch" that I have helped operate at musters--a grueling experience.
