I need a Hoof Govenor

Hi,

I am searching for a used belt driven hoof govenor for a gen set I am building around a continental 4 cyl L head. Anyone have a sorce? I guess they were used on lots of machines including tractors with converted car engines, welders, compressors, gen sets etc.

Any help is sure appreciated!

"Hoof" governors are still being made! Not named as such but they replace the Hoof Governor used frequently on Model A Ford engine conversions to air compressors (made originally before WWII by the Gordon Smith Company, Bowling Green KY. I have one of these with the "pierce" governor made by the same company.)

I like that one for 28.95. However it is a gear driven type and will require modification to work in my application.

I will need to machine a cover with an oil seal and it will either need a plug to fill it with oil or a return and drain line run. Likely would have to make an extention on the shaft as well. The cover could be made to pull double duty as its mounting bracket. What do you folks say about my oiling options?

Found a used hoff belt driven gov'. Had to drive a bit for it but it was only $20.00. Hope it is a good one

. No damage to the case and everything moves so I think it will be OK. Just have to figure the thing out now.
