I picked this up the other day, partly because I can use it and partly because it is so interesting. The only markings are on the moving part behind the jaw and simply say "Browne & Sharpe MFG. CO Providence R.I. USA". Jaws are about 5" wide.
There is a catalog from 1916 which shows milling vises that have all the same detail on the flange and around the fixed jaw, but there is not a cam action one listed or shown. Does anybody have more info about these? When they came around, or what niche this design might have generally benefited?

My 1925 catalog shows the number 2-F flanged vise with 5 1/8" jaw width and screw operation. It looks like it shares some design details with your cam vise.

There is no cam operated vise in the catalog. Such a vise would be for repetitive jobs on many parts of the same size. It would probably be used on a mill with lever feed.
