Large Cast Iron Flat Belt Pulley/Fly Wheel in Buffalo Craigslist

That'll store a lot of energy for your flatbelt machines. Sometimes inertial momentum is key for big old flat belt machines, particularly power hammers for blacksmithing, where you have to start a large mass moving when engaging the clutch.
 
That is priceless, which may mean he wants too much for it.

Another use would be a base for a grinder or vise stand. In that case, I would want a solid top of sheet metal or plywood to keep dirt from falling through the spokes.

Here it is closer to home - this one now "yard art" and leaning.

Given the interior machined surface my thought is this from a flywheel press of some sort. Yunno, flywheel spinning, press the pedal, engage the clutch, and cause the press to run through a cycle.

Bought to use as a flywheel for a pedal powered jointer.

Another project (Sigh!)

And it does have a tremendous affinity for the ground.

That is a nice flywheel. Although not as large I picked up this 18" flywheel and jackshaft last year.
