Picked up another old machine. A Demco Model KE drill press. Cast on the column is "DEMCO, Toledo General Mfg Co". Very heavy built. Motor bolted on column with a long (2') shaft that goes up to the step pulleys. Flat leather belt drive. Really neat thing, is there is a crank on the front of the head, which releases the tension on the idler, then moves a shifting fork which slides the belt to the next combination of pulleys. The step pulleys have a gradual transition between steps, so the belt just jumps to the next one. Only has a morse #2 taper, which seems small for the size of the rest of the machine. The spindle is large enough, I may just machine it out to a #3.
Anyway, does anyone know more about these? Anybody have advertisements or manuals? I figure this was built in the 40's but would like to know more.
I'll post some pics here real soon.
