the lost metal art of Sobi Yamada

They have a nice competition video of two teams joining a tungsten carbide rod to some aluminium for tensile testing. One team ground threads and one team made a new brazing alloy to join the pieces.

I did watch that video about Sobi Yamada: looks like that former disciple of his was next to useless in the quest to duplicate the skills.

Wow, thanks for posting this.
I watched the whole thing, and, agree that the presentation was annoying and could have been introduced more seriously.

I never would have thought to look on YouTube, but, I am currently making a large sign from sheet metal, using a similar technique.

The sign will be simple, though, with mere low relief for details.
Plans are to make a large shallow box to fill with pitch, or tar.

I've done that on a small scale, but, this sign is big.
Some details, I'll make an oak backer to hammer against.

I'd like to see if that is how he did the eyes.
Notice the head is mounted to a board of some sort.

You need something behind the metal to hold out while you tap in.

Very inspirational!

Today's world, we have Deep Draw steel available, (aluminum killed) which I did not buy for my project, but, I wonder if this fellow did, and what did the late Master know of the properties of the iron sheet he used?
