From Facebook... Pittsburgh Machine Tool Co. of Braddock, PA. Never seen one outside of Cope's book. According to Cope, they took over the lathe and planer lines of Gleason (who went on to focus on gear cutting machines). Fairly common pattern, with the exception of the back gears being mounted to the front of the headstock (in the manner of many triple geared lathes). "Made for heavy work", according to period advertising, and the double back gears and tailstock ratchet cast into the bed would bear that out.

Here are some photos of a Pittsburgh Lathe here in NZ, for sale last year. I didn't see it myself, just the advert.

Same Pittsburgh?

Quite a machine, too big for its shed.

edit: that headstock looks like it might have been quarried rather than cast, a description I first heard applied to a Russian lathe :D

Andy, the lathe posted (for Sale?) on Facebook, did someone buy it? Where was it located?
Used to be, somebody posted about a rare or desirable machine and someone would step up and save it.
