I have just had a look at large horizontal milling machine. If I arrange to shift it I can have it. It is a Craven-Rigid has anyone heard of it. It could have a manufacturers plate on it but the machine was buried in a corner.
Somewhere on this site I was reading a post that had a link to British site that had a lot of info on older British machines. Anyone know what it is.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Dave,

It's probably Tony Griffiths' website you're looking for:-

http://www.lathes.co.uk/page21.html

I couldn't see anything relevant, though.

I haven't heard of a Craven-Rigid machine, but Craven Brothers Ltd was a big Manchester machine maker until about 30 years ago, and 'Rigid' or 'La Rigide' machines were made in Switzerland (now StarragHeckert AG). Perhaps Craven made Rigids under licence, or perhaps they imported them and put their own name on.

I'm afraid I know nothing more. There are loads of old Craven machines still working, and presumably Rigid machines have the usual Swiss quality, but spares might be a problem ....

Good luck.
