Shepard metal lathe and accessories for sale. I bought this with plans to teach myself to turn, and got as far as making a few test cuts, but just found an awesome deal on a Lodge and Shipley, so this little beauty has to go.

12" swing, approx 36" between centers. "1914" is printed on the bed. The lathe is in complete working condition with nice cast iron legs and a set of change gears for threading.

Other features:
Back gears
Power feed, both longitudinal and cross
Forward and reverse via unusual inboard tumble lever
Half nut and slotted leadscrew
Rocker toolpost
A box of accessories, including a few toolbits

I also have a couple of chucks that fit the lathe:
6" 3-jaw automatic scroll chuck
9" independent 3 jaw chuck

The lathe came with a single phase 110v 1/2hp motor, which needed some work. I swapped it out for a 3 phase motor. You can choose either, or it would be a straightforward switch for your own motor.

There is a nicely done brazed repair of the apron, which doesn't affect function. No other broken or missing parts, as far as I can tell.

The lathe is located in Chicago, IL. I'd like $500 for everything.

Thanks,
Lee

There was a Shepard Lathe Co. in Cincinnati, OH from 1898 to after 1921 and a Shepard, Lathe & Co. in Worcester, MA from 1853 to 1864. Yes, Martin Lathe made lathes. Looks like you have the Ohio product.

Thanks for pointing that out, Ray :) I never removed the filler but yes, it's a Terry Thomas.

Larry, you're right - it's a Shepard lathe co. lathe.

I'll plan to keep this posted until the weekend, then I'll be listing it on the big 4 letter site (at a higher price to offset fees). If anyone's interested, come get it before then!

Lathe still available.

Updated info:

12" gap bed (17" over gap)
24" between centers (sorry for misinfo above, I was way off in my estimate)
Everything works as it should.

The lathe is 110v single-phase. The motor needs bearings and a cleaning, but seems otherwise good.

$500 with rocker toolpost and both chucks, or $625 with pretty much new BXA QCTP and set of 5 holders and both chucks.

Thanks,

Lee
