whitcomb-blaisdell lathe

Hello,
A buddy of mine has a Whitcomb-Blaisdell lathe that looks to be missing parts. Does anybody have any info on this lathe?

I think its missing a quick change gear box.

Richard - I have the early twenties catalog (some of the planer pages are dated 1920) that shows a little more complete and likely later unit.

Your photos may show a "semi-quickchange" with but rudimentary ways to make selections. A little study of the tag still there may shed some light.

I.E., it appears on the left that you have a "slip gear", positionable by pulling or pushing, and on the right a "pull rod" that may select the various visible gear sets by a "traveling feather" or movable key.

The later unit in my catalog appears to use a capstan wheel on a more or less vertical shaft to do some of this selecting.
