Vintage Hamilton 16" Lathe

Just in case anyone is interested the lead screw is bent and the compound gibb screw is broke off. Seems like a decent machine if you know how to straighten the lead screw.

I've been working on an old sidney lathe for a local dealer and had a disagreement with the owner over the bent lead screw. It has a visible oscillation in the middle, maybe .070" (about a 6 foot screw). I told him that I thought that was a problem, and gave two main reasons why. He says it's fine because the half nuts will "bring it into center" when they are clamped. He says to ask folks on practical machinist, cause he has sent lathes out with bent screws before and never had a complaint. Can anyone weigh in?
