held a "tag sale" to get rid of some stuff, and sit out and enjoy the weather this week. in selling stuff one buyer mentions that he has a bunch of old tools and one is some old rivett lathe. it has been in his barn for 6 yrs, and guy before it had it in his barn, before that was in morse tool. i ask to come over and see it some time, and since on vacation this week is good. well it was a 608, war machine, original table and controls, overhead countershaft, cabinet with a bunch of tooling (all gears in bays, maybe 200 collets total, 4 faceplates, lever collet closer, grinding attachment steady/follower rests, maybe a few other smaller things i havent figured out. also has an manual ironworker punch, shear, bender (heavy bugger), anvil 250lb,and leg vise that i picked up for bit over 600$. i did make 100 bucks at my tag sale, and now have a net gain of more tools. wife is not pleased. also inside cabinet was a note on date of work started (1925) date of injury..month or so later..then month off..and then restart work. kinda cool

The photos are a bit big...... but they are of a 608 and that's good...... looks like you got a great deal and I see you have already been over to the other Rivett site. I thought one of mine had a lot of collets.... but it only had 110...... what sizes are these collets (other than fractions)?.... I'm still looking for a few odd metric and wire gauges sizes to fill out my set.....

large as in canvas size or data. the pictures are sigificantly reduced as far as data.. down from 2meg to about 60k or so each? and pictures are no larger than my monitor. i can shrink either a bit more, just let me know which.
guess didnt go as wife planned. hold a sale, make some money and get rid of some stuff! ended up spending more and gettin more!

That is indeed a good day.

Make a note under there with your initals when you get power to her again. 100 years from now someone will enjoy the history even more.

My wife has taken to asking me hourly how well I am doing at getting rid of some stuff.

Enjoy.

The ironworker might be an Edwards. Can't really make that out there though. Appears to be a bench model, hand operated. Use it in leau of a weight bench. ;)

The anvil is a Hay Budden, Brooklyn NY. I suspect. Very nice and sought after in that condition as long as no pitting present. All edges do look straight and not chipped. That alone could be worth your price of admission.

wow im impressed on the anvil ID. you are correct, and i know less about anvils than i know about women. im kinda a newbie blacksmith. the anvil rings true and is a Budden. there is no pitting, just some surface rust, on the top. well will have to do some research on the anvil, thank you

I found the photos to be just about right, but
then I'm on a dsl line.

I had to laugh at the comment about 'the wife
didn't think it went so well' as this is about
what I would have gotten.

Cast iron out = 20 lbs.

Cast iron in = 600 lbs!

Sounds great to me but then wimmen folk,
you never can tell.

Just be on the lookout for that sign on the
front lawn - the one that says "MACHINE TOOLS
FOR SALE, ALL ITEMS ONE DOLLAR!!!"

I keep finding that one out when I get home
from work.

Scott,
Good find on the lathe and tooling! I guess you could point out to your wife that if you sell too much stuff,,,,you'll just have to take up hanging out down at the bar with the boys after work! It's a thought maybe!!!!

Thanks
Richard

Won't work, I tried that.

Threatened to spend my paycheck on hookers and
bar tabs, instead of cast iron. Wife said,
"could I go to the bar too?"

SCOTT,
your wife was not pleased. i know that
feeling. i would come in, and say guess
what i got? my wife would say, another
tool, gun, or what. but she is not with
me now, having passed on in oct. 2005.
so i suggest you enjoy the phrase when your
wife says??
good luck to all.

Thats great!

"surface rust" well at least i did not say cherry picker.
when i say "surface rust" i guess i mean deep pits...so to be more percise there is some rust without any sigificant pitting. appreciate info on the ironworker. cant seem to make that name fit the name on mine. wonder what the capacity of something like this is...felt like it was twice as heavy as the anvil, had all i could do to lift it over my head with one hand..grin, very sorry to hear about your wife mlbrown. you are right don't sweat the small things

Scott,

Looks like ye've become yet another victim of Old Arn Disease.

Let's just help Scott over here to the top of the Slippery Slope and grease up his boots with some o' this here Way Oil......AAAAHHHHHH!!!

What a great day you had - three fine machines in one go.
