I was talking to a collector friend last evening about machines that you don't see all to often in private collections. There are some fancy early planers and early lathes that show up at auction or on Craigslist from time to time and shared by fellow collectors but when looking through old literature or even in Copes books there seem to be a lot of interesting early machines built ... hardly ever do you see an example of one other then in a museum. I'm sure most of these machines were probably made in limited production so whatever is left out there is hard to find. Would anyone like to share pictures and stories of what you consider you earliest rarest hard to find examples of machines that you have in your collection. Pictures please!! We all love some good machine porn! :drool5:

This is at Rough and Tumble in Kinzers PA, we think it might be an 1850's - 1860's die sinker.

Couple of oddball entries

These two machines are part of my collection. One gets used and the other collects dust. The green machine is a leather belt hole punching machine. You can set the distance to the belt center And set the spacing linkage to give how many holes per inch. It produces holes accurately and fast. The machine came out of the W.F.& John Barnes Co. Rockford, IL. The other machine I would say is a cross between a lathe and a mill. It came out of the Rockford Watch Co. also in Rockford, IL.IMG_7589.jpgIMG_7588.jpgIMG_7586.jpg

little mill

Here are some pictures of a machine I own that I have shared on PM in the past... This little machine looks like it may have been for cutting keyways in shafting or perhaps cutting small gears? A small round leather belt feeds the table with an interesting arrangement on how it disengages the feed. This machine could also been built for a specific purpose...it is old and very unique.
