Default Garage Sale & Hendey Shaper Vise FS

I have recently had a change in my work career and now have time to ship the Hendey Shaper vise that I had listed here for sale 6-18-2011. Several people wanted it then but I was working too much OT to be able to ship it. You can see the details of it by searching the title in this forum. " FS Hendey Shaper Vise 10" Jaws" Posted 6-18-0211 by me. It now has the repo handle that I purchased from a fellow forum member. I am also having another Garage Sale Saturday Aug. 11th 2012 to make room to work in the shop. If you live local to the Dayton Ohio area You might be interested. For further details look at the Dayton Ohio craigslist under "tools" titled "Industrial Metalworking Garage Sale" Posting date of Aug. 6 2012. The Hendey vise won't be in the sale unless you identify yourself from this forum. I will be selling other items of interest to the Antique crowd later. I must have 100 vises, don't know how that happened. As mentioned by me last year there was interest in a local get together in this area. Another forum member might be able to set up a tour of a local privete Overhead Line Shaft shop. Nothing for sure yet on that. Always be on the lookout for more stuff. I am. Thanks for reading, Dave

    Dave,

Breaking up the text and using the actual link helps readability. Editing and cutting-in the link to the thread you cited as an example:

If you have even a quarter that number surplus to needs it is quite a lot in one place. I sure hope you can find the time to sort them by type/intended use, get bolt-down slot and table-tab size and spacing as well as jaw capacity, photograph them, and offer them up in groups.

The Sheldon 12" shaper I bought from you should get her dedicated roller-skates attached over the weekend. Been unable to move that, or anything else around in the shop what all the Old iron now crammed in.

Anyone know if this stuff breeds offspring when we are not looking? Do those vises have a family resemblance?

    You bet does!!!

Starts with all that stuff we buy off of eBone, garage sales, PM, and other places. Then it grows into machines.

Going to the doctor to get fixed doesn't work!

Thanks Bill for making my post more readable. I'm not too good with a computer but I'm pretty good at buying vises. I think I have close to 20 into the sale now. All flavors and sizes. I have 4 other shaper and planer vises available and will offer them up here first when I have time. It's getting a little easier to part with the vises so there might be 30 in the sale by Saturday. I've been watching your adventures and know you have a lot of projects going on. Keep us updated as your posts are always interesting. Regards Dave

Just hit the 'Enter' key more often, Dave. Break a paragraph at each change of target.

Adding: Helps to first 'Go Advanced' and get a larger panel to work in. Can't see squat in the default gun-slit.

If in doubt, just break now and then on principle.

The 'whitespace' takes up screen room, but adds near-zero to bandwidth/download time. Eye-brain team puts that all back together far faster and easier than it takes a jumble apart.

Thanks, hope to start adding photos 'soon'.

Adam gets better shots with an iPhone than I do with an allegedly 'proper' camera, so I need to do some practicing and find the magic.

    47Nomad,

You wrote: "I must have 100 vises, don't know how that happened."

So, let me get this straight: Your vice is vises? Don't worry, you are among friends here. We can think of worse vices than vises. (Like collecting odd old wrenches, for instance.)

I'd be interested in details of any small shaper vises you might have FS.

I got to thinking about running a business selling vises. I would probably run an advertisement in the paper on a particular vise for sale.
Would the featured vise be called an " advice " ?
Got to dig down to get to the shaper vises. I don't have any small ones. Regards, Dave

Why would one need more than say 10 vices? That's ridiculous, but we all can understand your plight.

Why would a life guard save more than one swimmer from drowning?

Dave's year's-long interception of the scrapper-bound leavings of the 'rust belt's' shuttered factories within his range may become the salvation of many 'ere who've acquired a mill or shaper without proper vise.

Just wish they were not so heavy to ship...

dscf3582.jpgWell the sale is over. Many thanks to the forum guys who came. I only got 23 vises into the sale but i did manage to take a photo after some had sold. As is common 2 guys came the day before and bought 3 of them. They really didn't get the best ones either.

I will get the shaper vises up for sale on this forum with photos after I get a camera. Yes I dropped the camera after I shoot the photo you are about to see. I guess no one has ever figured out how to make a battery door stay closed without breaking.

A fun time today. Always nice to talk to others with the same interest. Got several questions about why so many vises.

Ready to hit the couch after moving around that iron. I think I''ll get into the hobby of balsa wood airplanes.

Glad it went well. I was hoping to make it over and stop at Mendelson's on the way back but it wasn't to be. On the plus side I got 4 more hours of OT for emergency on call work.

I made alot of money the last 43 years on emergency call in work. They just want you to have more money for your hobbies. You are always welcome to just come over and visit. Regards Dave

Certainly more re-sale value than the dried pancakes one guy was collecting in '52 whilst building the longer runways at Dhahran...

NFW! Too fragile by half if you break cameras. Also a fire hazard, every bit of it.

Keep supporting the vise trade... milling-machine and shaper vise porn, please, sir?

I may have to do that. I enjoy a good road trip and I like to talk about tools.

Bring at lest some cash and cargo capacity, ELSE wear a bib to keep the drool off yer shirt!

Only reason I escaped Dave's place with as little as I did was too much already on the truck, (1800lb+ of 12" Sheldon shaper on a 4-cyl GMC Sonoma) ... and too little in the wallet.

And that was a thousand mile round-trip with two overnights yet...

    ;-)

Capacity isn't a problem I drive a Silverado 2500HD, however feed it can be. I'm always finding lots of interesting things that I probably don't need

One of things I've kicked my self over was not buying a Sheldon 12" shaper. I actually had two chances to buy the same one and passed both times. I already have two small shapers but they simply don't have enough power or table capacity.

I was actually looking at the long slog of refurbi-shit work on three others as options, all as close or closer, 14" to 20". A Steptoe with (broken?) power rapid, veteran G&E 'Toolroom', and an even more elderly Rockford. IIRC.

A 12" IS 'light' as shapers go, but this one being essentially-turn-key at least held out the possibility that something under my roof could actually make chips instead of sawdust before the year was out.

It has been cleaned and is ready to go back together, so is, in fact, much further along than the 10EE or even the Burke #4.

The Quartet mill OTOH, is a whole industry in itself, though it, too was in working order before I started cutting aged belts off of it and scheming DC replacements for its 3 motors.

Monarch, of course was DC to start with. Burke already has its NOS/NIB 1 HP DC waitin' sheaves. Sheldon I'll simply VFD until the Reeves drive sets a foot wrong. Larger of the Quartet's VariDrive belts lists for over $400, so I was glad of finding a NIFP ex SC Johnson surplused spare at 'bout half that.

Adding: Quartet mill also lacks a vise, which is part of why I'm still bugging Dave for photos...

dscf3589.jpgStopped by Friday at one of my stops to check on what they might have got in. Bought 6 Jacobs 18N drill chucks and the vises you see in the photo. Will get the shaper vises listed on here in September. Might even pick up more next week at the show I'm going to. They sometimes have shaper vises there for sale.
