Good afternoon gentlemen,

After years of longing, I finely fount a hite-icator that was small and cheap. It is a model 5830, 9". This is the model with a dial indicator, circa 1960's. Anyone have a manual for this? I've never used one and have some questions. My understanding is that this is used instead of a block stack to set a scribe to or perhaps to zero a test indicator at a given height. For scribe work does one use a height gage with a flat scribe for this? It dose not seem like the round cross section of a surface gage point would allow accurate setting to the blocks on the hite-icator. As you can tell this is a another case of buying a tool because it is neat, rather than needed!

Thanks in advance,

I doubt that any of these precise devices (most of my experience is with a Pla Check by Cadillac Gauge) were used much for scriber setting.

They were intended for dimensional inspection of parts before CMMs became common.
