    Default LeBlond regal thread dial.

I don't think I'll ever find one so I checked out the one on my 13" south bend. It will work if you turn the gear around and drill and tap a new whole.

the gear matchs up perfect so being as I have 2 I'm going to do the mod and use one on the regal.

As long as the leadscrew thread pitch is the same, it should be no problem. Even threads on any line, odd threads on any numbered line for half nut engagement on that LeBlond.

John Oder speaks of a hand-carved thread dial pinion, others have posted photos of wooden threading dial cases.

Pretty forgiving of what/how it's made, as long as your replacement candidate has little chance of damaging the leadscrew.

The SBL is a nicer dial, and the gear is wider.I have both lathes and both dials.I would not try to use the regal dial on the SBL because of the slotted lead screw. If that narrow pinion gear ever caught the slot, bad things could happen. The other way around is no problem, theres no slot and the gear is generous.

I have a thread dial from an old 14" LeBlond, the pinion is in bad shape though. Let me know if you would like to see pictures or measurements.
