Default Pratt Whitney 3C Mill Dividing Head – Wooden Case

    Hello
I have the dividing head, tailstock & small box of gears for my P&W 3C bench mill, but not the original wooden storage case. I'm not optimistic that I'll ever acquire an original, so I'm resigned to making one. I was wondering if anyone who has one of these cases would mind posting its dimensions and if it is not too much trouble, a closeup shot of the interior layout. A picture of this case from an Ebay auction is attached for reference. Any help appreciated.

    Thank you.

Rick, sorry I can't do photos now but here are some dimensions.
    width-15 1/8
    front to back-10 3/8
    height-7 5/8
The top is 1 1/8 thick with a 9/16 recess.
The sides of the box and top are 5/8 thick.
The main compartment for the head is 8" wide and 8 1/2 front to back. It's 6" deep which makes the bottom 1/2" thick.
The compartment for the tailstock is 5 3/8 wide and 3 3/8 front to back and 3 1/2 deep. Greg.

    Rick,

I have one, but I've thought of making reproductions of those, but never have the time. You might consider making additional ones. I'm sure there are a number of people here on the board who would want one, plus additional sales on ebay.

Hey, once you're set up to cut one part, cutting five more is no big deal.

More dimensions you will need are the depths for each gear compartment.

Note that the size for each gear is stamped on the edge of the compartment.

I'm not home right now, or I would look those up. If you don't get them from anyone else. let me know.

Default Box Reproductions - P&W Dividing Head

You're right, Steve. I, for one, would buy a repro box.

I sent a bunch of photos of mine and drawings to someone on this site last year...... if they still have the stuff maybe they can post it. I may have deleted it but don't have time to look right now.

Note this is what is stamped in the top of the box...

Have fun and post pictures of your copy when done.

Yes, you did and it now has a box, as well as some gears and both tailstocks.
