I picked up an AMMCO 7" a few weeks ago. Works wonders on the oddball stock I'm always scrounging up for different projects.

Benta, you need to post a photo of that shaper. Given the penchant for Germans to engineer hell out of things, it about has to be a very nice machine.

Cincinnati 20"
I have a Cincinnati 20" from about 1912. It has the original vise. The table is not universal.

Jdleach, it's in parts at this time, so I don't have any good photos.
However, Michael Moore's site has scans of my brochure of the machine:
http://www.eurospares.com/shapers.htm
It's almost at the end of the page.
Intersting is, that it has both transversal and vetical power feed (though not at the same time), and that there is both a forward and a reverse cutting clapper box (also not at the same time :-).
Best Regards,
Benta.
PS: the correct year is 1956, not 1958.

I have what I believe is a Portass hand shaper - possibly the one pictured on Tony's site:
http://www.lathes.co.uk/portass/page18.html
(The angle plate for the machine is being used to prop it up in the pictures).
I haven't used it yet, I'm looking for a suitable small vice.
Jim.

If anybody can help, I need a vise for the G&E. I am using an 8" milling vise now. 5/8" tee slots are 7 1/2" center to center.

Greg,
Thanks for the info, and the pics. It was very helpful. Check your messages for some G&E vise info.

36" Ohio made in '51 under an Army contract that specified everything had to be made in Ohio. I suppose it was a special purpose deal. When I got it had no clapper box and some added tapped holes where the clapper box went.
Previous shapers have included 36" Gemco, 16" G&E Toolroom Universal and 16" Heavy Hendey.

16" Rockford Heavy. Crank shaper. Plain table, outboard support, original vise. Actual stroke is 21"+ x 23" table travel.
Still hoping to find a 5' planer "not too far away"

Sb 7"
I have an early South Bend 7", (no oil pump). It has a vise but not a SB, perhaps it's a Hardinge.
This may not count but there is a Bridgeport E head in my shop with the original factory cutters.

I listed my real shapers and planers in an earlier post, but seems incredible I didn't mention, that I MAKE a shaper as part of the VersaMil set. In fact I'm shipping one out today. It's a shaper attachment that is used with a VersaMil. Driven by a crank powered by the main unit, it has a maximum of a five inch stroke. It MAY be the ONLY shaping attachment of any kind made in America, now that Volstro is history. There's one on EVERY US NAVY nuclear submarine!
So while Milacron sticks anything about shapers in the antique section, one of the US most sophisticated machines ( submarines) still uses this "obsolete" machine tool as part of the toolroom.

Only one now !
12" Sheldon, purchased from PM member Saratoga Bill -- thanks Bill, it's a keeper !
Anybody have a spare vise for one of these?
Had a 7" Ammco for ten years and never set up, but recently found it a new home.
Also saved a circa 1905 16" Smith and Mills. Talk about buyer's remorse, but it too has since found a loving new owner.
