What will happen if I try to power up wire EDM machine (Brother HS-3100) without connecting water tank to it ? I don't want to cut anything. Just want to see if I can move it in XY axes. Will machine let me do it, or there will be some kind of alarm blocking the whole machine ? Any precautions I should consider when starting this kind of machine for the first time ? I bought it used at auction so I don't know anything about it. The guy told me I should let technician take care of it. Is it necessary ?

I would imagine that you will get an alarm... I'm not specifically familiar with the Brother, but the machines that I AM familiar with would give alarms if the water unit was not connected.

Main precautions is to make sure that the machine voltages (ie - 220, 440 etc.) are correct before powering up. Once powered up you will need to check the pump rotation.

However, if you are not familiar with 3 phase electricity and electronics, I might suggest a tech to get it up and running.
