This job is trying to get the better of me.
I am designing a drilling jig to drill at
+-9000-11000 rpm
What I want to know is what is a verrrry safe
pecking depth. I'm drilling 5mm deep. I feel
that 0.5mm pecks should be safe, This is just a thumbsuck. I will apply high pressure coolant or cutting oil? and want to ensure that I remove all the swarf and keep the flutes clean. The cutting flute length is 7mm. How would a cnc cycle look like?
Please guys, I'm dreading starting this job.
Total nr of holes=140

I would start at about 45sfm (7160 rpm) and feed about 2.75IPM. The program would look something like this:

G0G17G40G90G94
T1M6(0.6MM DRILL)
G0G90X___Y___S7160M3
Z.1H1
G83R.1Z-.197Q.02F2.75

The G83 is a canned cycle for peck drilling on most CNC's. The Q word specifies the amount of peck. I used inch programming so your numbers will be different if you program in metric.

That's a really small hole. At least you don't have to go too deep. Good Luck.

I agree with e stop on this one.Apart for the peck depth which I would use 1/2 the Dia for small sizes.

I agree w/ Ryan on the lower peck depth; I prefer 1/3 Dia. myself, full retract on work hardening mat'l, I wouldn't go any more than 1/2 Dia., though. Coolant works great.
