Sharpening new cutting tools in mass production situations...or are they mainly used for resharpening tools in high volume ? Or neither, but used for grinding custom tooling ?

I reckon over here they are used mainly for new tooling.I know all the tap makers use them and most of them grind out the solid and will not regrind worn taps regardless of new cost as they have no way of economically setting them up.When you think about it you can probably set up a manual machine and regrind a blunt tool infinitely quicker than you could set up a cnc.

Hmmm...so the customer base for a used one would be ~very~ limited seeing as how most cutting tools now come from Poland or Asia (?)

I know of several cutter shops that run cnc machines. They'll do specials as well as resharps, so the newer ones anyway must pretty painless to set up. It depends on the asking price.
