Saturday morning a counterpart was drilling a hole in an iron casting in preparation for tapping with a 5/8-11 tap. Well he was drilling it dry, red chips started coming out, and the machine quit (not sure if the machine overloaded or he stopped it first). So here we were with an overload alarm (that only goes away if we power down and restart) and has a drill bit stuck in a casting. We twisted the drill bit with pliers and it was loose, still throwing servo overload alarm when we tried to raise the spindle. We cut the drill bit and broke it off to make sure the spindle was loose. Still giving overload. The X and Y axis move fine, but the Z sounds like it is shuttering and then it will thrown the servo overload alarm.
We let the machine cool off for an hour and still throws the alarm. Anybody got any ideas?
