Does anyone have DETAILED instructions on how to set tool lengths on the TM-1? I have gotten a few different ways and now I am confused.

Also need to the TL-1.

Thanks

Couple of different basic concepts:
1: Part Z0 is used to set tool lengths
2: Fixed reference point, independent of part is used to set toollengths.

I use the latter in the following manner:

You must set Setting 64 - T offs Measur Uses Work to OFF

1: Find a fixed spot on the table. Most often it's the top of non-moving jaw.
2: Take a 1" gageblock or pin and place on the jaw.
3: Put tool 1 in spindle and jog in Z until the tool tip touches the gagblock
4: Press "Tool Offset Measur"
5: Press "Next Tool" to put in tool2
6: Repeat 3-5 until all tools are set
7: Put a toolholder with a dial indicator in spindle
8: Jog to the top of the gageblock/pin until the indicator shows 0 and zero the Operator Pos display Z axis
9: Jog to your part's Z0 location, jog in Z until the dial reads 0 again
10: Record the Z display on the Operator position screen and type it into the GXX offset Z value.

Done.

If you now finish your part and put in another one with some different location, just repeat 7-10. If you add new tools for this part then repeat 3-6. If you have multiple setups with multiple workoffsets, then repeat 7-10 for each location.

Or you can set the tools to the bed of the vise.

Then in your fixture offset for z you enter the size of the parallels plus the stock. This number will be positive.

Then you can omit lines 7-9 and go right to 10 :D

Yep, & say you touch off the top of your part/blank/stock. You face & cut
pockets & such. Then on the final drilling your small drill snaps you no longer
have a Z0 from the top of your part since you have machined that away.

That's why all tools are set off the table (the table is always there). I just
change the drill & zero it off the 2" setter on the table & it is right.
