Has anybody bought the 3 jaw setup from Haas? How's the quality of the chuck?
Is it "adjust true" type?

when i bought mine back in 2000 , you had to buy the chuck extra (the dealer sold pratt-burnerd). the rotary table w/ the option merely had a stub spindle for the chuck to mount ,
which kind of ruins the table for other non- chuck uses. i bought the plain style.

i use a flat back , front bolt, japanese made, 3-jaw cushman held on by tee nuts in the
slots.... and a shop-made 5-c collet setup which mounts in the bore . i also have several
dedicated fixtures and a mini-tombstone with 4 -sides for multiple fixturing of teeny parts,
and drilling angled holes.

what i want to do is mount my 8" 4-jaw to the table , which will require some doing .
(3 -120deg tee slots on the table ....4- holes @90deg on the chuck )

When we bought ours a couple of years ago (don't remeber exactly when, but it is one of the red versions).

Anyway we bought the chuck and adaptor plate and it came with a Buck Chuck with two piece jaws, Adjust-Tru style. Really nice chuck, just takes up alot of table space.

Thanks for the replies, i need to buy monday. The product specialist was out at Haas and nobody else could answer the questions, i'll confirm when i order. I priced out an adjust true type Bison setup from Harbor tool and got to $1000 pretty quick and it would have required some work to make it fit. The Haas runs $1300 now but is pretty much ready to run so i'll do the smart thing for once.

Yesterday, I started to post exactly what you've already found: by the time you find the same chuck and buy a backing plate, you're almost to the cost of buying it from Haas and you still have to mess around with the backplate. I haven't shopped for my HRT210 but I did comparison shop for the 8" on my TL-1. I already had a BTC 6-jaw but ended up spending $250 just for the backplate.

The only way to cut costs is to buy lower quality parts or to hunt eBay. It doesn't sound like like you've got the luxury of time.

The price from Ajax is much better than the one i got from Harbor tool, Harbor wanted $816 for the Bison 3 jaw set tru while Ajax gets $455. I talked to Haas today and it is and adjust tru type with 2 piece jaws, it could come with a chuck from Buck,Pratt and a couple of other good names. I'm kinda surprised that somebody else hasn't come out with a kit for the 210, it's kinda like the small block chevy of rotaries.

The other way to do this would be to make a shouldered aluminum bushing to go inside the bore hole and with a larger OD to allow the set-tru feature to work, then bolt the chuck right to the T-nut grooves.

It would eliminate an extra 0.75-1.00" of thickness to the stackup. That's kinda' what I have in the back of my mind if I ever need to mount a chuck.
