Gentleman,

I have a 10HP RPC hooked up to a Mazak QT8 and having problems with the relay for the Hydraulic pump getting hot and tripping off. Is there a way to determine the proper phase sequence short of an oscilloscope?

I have switched leads and noted the changes, one set up and the pump runs much longer but still trips off.

The direction of the motor is the best metric for phase sequence, most machine motors have a direction arrow on them, start and stop the motor observing that the fan tuns the right way. Most types of hydraulic pumps are directional ie they will not pump at all if driven backward.

Put a clamp meter on the motor leads, there is only 2 ways to connect the phase sequence to and you have tried both something else is amiss
