I've been thinking about building a miniature drill press. Something about Servo size. Since a precision spline for the quill travel is either expensive to buy or hard to make, I thought it would make sense to mount a small but powerful motor to a vertical slide and adapt the shaft for an Albrecht chuck. No spline needed!
The radio control hobbyists use a lot of nice little brushless DC motors that have all of the characteristics I need. Unfortunately the controllers that are typically used with them don't. The problem is they don't hold a constant speed under load variations, not even close.
Does anyone know a solution?
