I am getting

103 X servo motor error too large
139 X motor Z Fault

1994 VF3 DC Brush machine.

I switched x and y drives and get the same error.

I also seem to lose postion when it happens and have to referernce the axis before i can continue.

This is an intermittent problem getting worse.

Is this the motor, the encoder, or cabling?

I pulled the brushes and vacuumed the dust out as best I could and replaced the brushes. They looked to be about half gone.

????

Any insight before I call the dealer.

IIRC, those were a couple of the alarm #s I got on my VF-3 recently. Encoder for Z was flaky. New one was $275 + service call. Looking at old one and found manufacturer online. Didn't go through order process to see what price would be. Might be worth checking out.

I just looked at it some more. I popped the cover on the main connection at the motor and it was pretty full of brush dust.

Could this cause the problem. Obviously it is not the best and I will vacuum it out before reassembly.

New motor is airborn now. We will see later today if it works.

I cleaned out the old one as well as I could without taking it apart.

No Dice.:(

OK now my x axis is out of location by -.048.

I run this machine with a pallet changer and all my production fixtures are pined to the pallets.

Is there a parameter to change (maybe 125) to make this right?

Or do I need to change all my G10 lines in my programs?
