How often do you calibrate your in-machine probe?

And what do you use to calibrate it? I calibrate whenever the machine has been sitting for an extended period of time, without me using it. So if I haven't used it in 2 weeks, and all the sudden I'm gonna use it for parts that need it, then I calibrate it with a ring gauge clamped to the table.

However, what I want to find is a ring gauge with a precision magnetic base. So i can just plop it on the table, leave it right at the machine, and not have to fidget with clamps, inspection room, etc. Anyone have a fast and effective solution?

I recalibrate my part probe any time I have reason to think there is something off. That doesn't happen very often. Otherwise I recalibrate it when I have a tight tolerance part I'm about to do.

I re-touch my tools with the tool-setter about the same as above. I try to get my spindle about as warm as it will be when running my parts before touching off the tools. Seems to give me better results then when I run the tool setting cold.

As far as the setting ring...I just clamp my ring very lightly in a vise.
