HAAS VF2 Hesitating on Helical Interpolation

Anyone experience, solve, or have insite on the following issue?

We have a HAAS VF2, 15k RPM spindle, 20 HP Dual Drive, 1000 IPM. We are cutting parts that have an obround outside profile using a downward helical tool path. Following are the parameters:

Spindle Speed: 4500 rpm
Feed Rate: 300ipm
Chipload: 0.0222

Now, when we run the program, it is running as if there is a G04 at the end of each single rotation.:angry::confused::willy_nilly::crazy: :willy_nilly: Anyone have any experience with this?

I am at work now, I will post a video when I get home.
 
Please post the g-code. That does not sound familiar.

Cutter is an iscar helido 3 flute 3/4"

we ran the same type of pattern as a finish cycle using a 1/2" ball endmill and i cranked it up over 350 ipm and there was no hesitation.

Setting 85 is .025
setting 191 is medium
under parameter 315 high speed machining has a 1 next to it

still had some hesitation after the change but much much smoother, it also brought the part under tolerance by 10 thou...back to the drawing board
 
A 1/2" tool path should not run better than a 3/4" tool path, especially at a higher feed rate. This suggests the programming method is different. How are you programming this? Can you post the 1/2" g-code?

You can try this:
191=Finish
85=.05

The best option is to change your CAM system to output arcs instead of linear segments. (filter to arcs)

The Haas control has a maximum blocks per second of 1000 with HSM on. Your program gets up to 850 with the code you provided, this is comparable to very complex 3D machining.

Other possibilities:
G61->G64
G103 P1 -> G103
Look at the CURNT COMDS screen for active G-codes and look up whichever codes you don't know.
 
Can you filter your toolpath in CAM to get less small segments and more G2's or G3's? That will gain you the most. Like Ken said, take a look at your filter settings for your finish tool and try those for the rougher.

Regarding settings 85 and 191, if you want to mess with it some more, do this:

G187 Pp Ee.eee

P1 = rough
P2 = medium
P3 = finish

E0.025 = default setting 85. Change it to whatever you want. Must have the leading zero though.

If you can't get what you need out of CAM, I'd play with G187. I've had to add .030" on the part in CAM and go with G187 P1 E0.040 in the past, but it was worth it at over 500 IPM.

by any chance do you know where in mastercam the filter setting is?
 
Look for the "total tolerance" button. Click that and set your filter there. As a starting point, I generally use 3:1 filter ratio and .0004 total tolerance for finish toolpaths.

ok thanks, we found it and left everything as standard and went with 1:1 ratio. will try it out tomorrow!
