Was surprised as all hell to see a Hardinge lathe for sale in this part of the world.... Along I go to the auction and as the photo showed it is a DV-59... I did manage to pick it up, for an OK price, more then I wanted to pay... I had to bid against someone who told me he just wanted the base for god knows what reason...
Anyway as mentioned earlier it is a DV-59 serial number 15219.. No idea of age other then it is post 1960 as the belt is replaceable without pulling the spindle...
It is fitted with a genuine Hardinge 3 jaw chuck that does not want to come off (I did loosen the set screw) came with a fair sprinkling of rust, although it all seems to be surface rust only.... I would say it sat in an area exposed to the elements for awhile, but not completely in the open.. Just an open sided shed...
As well as the tailstock and cross and top slide, it also has a fixed steady...
No collets..
Powers up, but will not change speeds... It is stuck at the lowest speed setting... The relay clicks in but nothing happens, although I am not feeding it 240V as I do not have that type of plug in the shed only 415V ones... Maybe the little speed adjustment motor runs on 240v and not 415v..
Spindle was dead quiet...
