I have a pair of HC with serial numbers:
HC-197A
HCR-205A

These are on the end of the bed I have found no other identification. Inside the cabinets were the original schematics stamped by hardinge QC dated march 1961 but these serial numbers do not match up with any hardinge list I have found. Any ideas?

The list I have says the "new model chuckers" began with s/n 100-A in January, 1962. Because this was the first year and 100-A was probably the first one built, production may have started after January, 1962. In January, 1963, they reached s/n 466-A.

Any insight on one being a HC and the other HCR?

The 1960 model DSM59 turret lathe has a push button variable speed drive. There was also a DSM-R model that had a single ratio plain v-belt drive and was designed for rapid stops and reversing, handy for tapping to minimize the time per part. It came with a set of single groove pulleys to change spindle speed for different jobs.

But I never saw a reference to an HCR model.
