I picked up a used Pilgrim vertical mill for very cheap. I got it all together and I have a little rattle when its running. I moved it 350 miles because I bought it right before I moved. Im wondering if when moving 350 miles something may have loosened up.

The spindle brake when not engaged rattles a bit but when I hold onto it I still have a rattle. I looked into it further and found the spindle has some play when turning it right and left in the quil maybe 1/16". I dont know why this would make a rattle when its running but its the only play I can find.

Any help would be appreciated
Thank You

The play comes from the splines being loose. Probably the "socket"

This comes from abuse such as large fly cutters and the fact that many of the clones did not use ground splines on the spindle shaft.

thanks

I worked on my mill this morning and I think my spindle brake is slopping around any easy fixes for that?
