n00b Drawbar Question

I got my first mill up and running, a '46 M-Head with a MT2 taper, and I'm having issues with inserting/ejecting collets.

If I stick the collet in with a nice slap, like I do on a lathe tailstock, and thread in my ejector-style drawbar, I have trouble getting the opposing threads of the drawbar and ejector nut tightened since I seem to need a third hand or a way to lock the spindle, and if I turn one too far before turning the other, it locks things up or worse yet ejects the collet during tightening and I have to start over. I've taken to just using another drawbar with no ejector nut and then just supporting the quill and knocking collets out with a hammer and allthread.

What is the actual proper procedure for inserting and then removing a collet with one of these ejector style drawbars? I can't find any video or written procedure anywhere and want to make sure I'm not doing something boneheaded. Maybe I just need more clearance between the ejector nut and the drawbar nut?
