I have a buddy that bought an older Bridgeport mill.
I haven't seen it ,but it has the old large box feed on the x axis.
How hard is it to convert this to the newer servo type?
I'll try to get a pic of it.

Make sure you know what model the feed is. IMHO, the Servo feeds are not as good as the 6F and 8F bridgeport feeds. The bridgeport feeds can be repaired/rebuilt if needed.

What is the purpose of going to the newer style feed?

What is his power feed doing/not doing that makes him wanna spend $980 to replace it?

Agree. I have used both types of power feeds. The servo feeds can bog down a bit in a cut (feed rate slows down). The older BP type is built like a tank and can hold up better.

I went by today and he has the old drive fixed. An electrician was in there hooking up other machines and repaired it.
He cleaned contacts, fixed switch and potentiometer!
Thanks for the info everyone.
