Well, My brother and I are headed down a new path for us. This is our venture into CNC. We purchased this Torq Cut 22 with DX 32 controller, 1996 vintage, direct from the original owner who is retiring and was selling off his shop. He was using it but when we went to run it at his place it wouldn't start up. Despite that we agreed on a price that was worth the risk of having some major challenges in the electronics to overcome. It's in the shop now and we're ready to get started on it.

The first question I have is in regards to hook up to power. Our incoming power to the shop is 220v 3ph with a "hot" leg (one of the three legs reads 208v to ground). Is this machine wired in such a way that we should avoid putting this on a particular leg of the machine? Can we even use our power safely?

Dan

If the machine is set for 220 3 phase you are set in that department. Usually the machines will have your center tapped 220 pair going to L1 and L2 in the machine, L3 would be your 208 leg.
If your fan rotation is not correct your spindle rotation will probably be wrong also, fix is to reverse the lines going to L1 and L2.
I expect you will have problems with a machine that was running and now is not.
It maybe the parameters that are maintained by a back up battery. Leave the machine off just a couple days too many and the parameters are lost. You might try for help in the CNC part of the forum as it seem like mostly manual machine guys hang out here in Bridgeport/Hardinge section.
I have no experience with your machine and the above stab at info is only generalities.
If you do try in the CNC section you may want to title your thread "Help need getting Torq Cut 22 running", but that section is not as fussy about those things.

Just make sure it is tapped properly. You can still get all the parts for the electronics on the TC22.

When you say it wouldnt start up, what do you mean? It wouldnt power up? Spindle wouldnt start?

If it wouldnt start up, check the 5/12VDC coming off of the computer power supply (black to yellow is 12VDC and black to red is 5VDC). It is looking for pretty specific voltages, so make sure its within 5.0-5.2 and 12.0-12.3VDC. 5VDC has alot of control in the computer and 12VDC does alot with the actual movement. If you are getting good voltage but the computer is still not turning on, id hook up a monitor directly into the VGA on the motherboard and see if the monitor is the issue or if the motherboard is the issue.

The machine is plated as being setup for 220V 3 phase. I wasn't there when it was attempted but I understand it didn't power up. Monitor was dead. So it sounds like monitor or the battery for the controller could be a good starting point if the hookup is ok.

I did start a new thread in the CNC section.
