Can anyone please advise about this noisy head problem and what I need to check \ replace to quieten the head?

The expendable parts in the head are;
Belt for the Vari-discs
Keys for the motor and front Vari-discs
Vari-disc bushings, two per movable disc are epoxied in place
These are the parts that are the source of noise for most problems.

Check the brake springs. If one snapped that might be the source of the metallic squeal.
Bump the brake lever while running as a test.

The low speed bull gear #40 might be riding too high and brushing against the cover (not shown in the diagram).
Not so likely if the mill has been quiet up till now.

Run the mill for a time and reach up where the draw bar enters the head. The top plate # 2 has a bearing #4. When this bearing fails it will heat the plate. Worse case is it will seize and the bore will slip on the shaft.
Be sure to check this.

I just replaced my bushings and keys...and changed my head. How do I adjust the adjustment screw for the varispeed tilt plate ? Where should I have my rpm for initial start up?

Thank you!

Put a vertical line on the spindle nose.
Engage Low range.
Start spindle and dial it down to ~50 rpm.
Watch the clock and count for one minute.
Loosen the nut #7 and use a flat blade screwdriver to turn the adjuster #16.
Counter clockwise increases the rpm. Clockwise rotation forces the belt to run at a larger diameter on the front Vari-discs so the rpm drops.
Get it close in Low and it will be close in Hi range too.
