    Question Dial will not lock

    5 -> Dial Holder

    Dear fellows-

    Referring to the above snippet from the manual, I am not able to lock one of my Dial Lock Nut to keep the dial clamped to the feed screw. It's only one, as near as I can tell.

    I am going to remove all three sets and measure the respective dimensions to see what I can see, but if one of you BP gurus can help suggest a repair procedure, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Most of the time, it's crud on the dial holder that won't let the lock nut screw down far enough. I have seen one instance where the dial holder needed to have the groove machined.

    I had a similar issue once that I was able to resolve by swaping the left and right x axis dials, In my case the outer ring of the dial was contacting the bearing support before the shoulder of the dial holder, when I crancked the table it would spin the dial free.

    Dial has to clear the table end bracket, shim to achieve that. As above though its probably just grunge in the thread of the lock nut, all of mine needed cleaning, one had to be undone with a serious amount of effort too!

    I made a 0.020" shim washer to insert between the dial holder and the bearing supporting the lead screw and bam! problem solved.

    I think 0.020" is too big of a swarf admitting gap, so as soon as I can make a 0.005" shim, I shall.

    Thanks, fellows, for the feedback!

    Respectfully,
