Responsibilities
Primary function: Sets up and operates a variety of machine shop tools to make or repair all types of metal parts and equipment.
Sample Work Procedure:
• Reads and interprets prints, making necessary mathematical calculation to layout stock or damaged parts.
• Uses hoists to position work piece. Correctly aligns and fastens work piece into machine.
• Sets up and operates all types of machine shop equipment.
• Observes work piece and verifies conformance to specifications throughout the operation.
• Re-grinds and sharpens tools as required.
• Performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment.
• When required, spot welds.
• Obeys all safety rules and performs housekeeping assignments.
• Cross-functional work force.
• Maintains machine tooling and jigs in an orderly fashion. Requisitions parts and supplies as needed.
Qualifications
• The position requires a sincere commitment to safety, a trade school certificate or an associate’s degree in the field and comparable work related experience.
• The successful candidate must possess appropriate tools and be available to work overtime. Experienced machinist to set up and operate lathes, drill press, small manual mill, and CNC Bridgeport mill.
• Must be able to cut all types of threads on a manual lathe. This is repair work back to OEM spec for pieces weighing up to 6 tons.
• Pluses are Machinist Journeyman’s papers and experience on 4”, 5”, 6” horizontal boring mills.
