Tool Maker - Plastic Injection Molds

An Abbotsford, BC based manufacturer of firearm products is seeking a Tool Maker to complement its in house Tool Room and Injection Molding operation. The applicant should possess a keen interest in the latest machining and programming technologies, and have a passion for technical and challenging projects. This position is best suited to an individual who is self-motivated, can work well independently or as part of a team, and appreciates the opportunity to take responsibility of a project and see it through to completion.

We recently purchased two new Makinos:

Makino F5 high speed mill with:
20k HSK63 spindle, scales, core cooled ballscrews and spindle, 1000psi through spindle coolant, coolant filtration system, coolant temperature controller, graphite cutting package, LUC conveyor, Renishaw part probe and laser tool length setter, Pro 5 Control, 30 ATC. 3R chucks and FCS fixture table. This machine is setup for un-attended production of graphite and copper electrodes, as well as hardmilling inserts, slides, lifters to micron precision. MST Heatshrink tooling.

Makino EDNC6 sinker EDM with:
Hyper I Control, 16 ATC, XYZ travels 25.6"x17.7"x13.8", workpiece and electrode probing, HyperCut, HS-Rib High speed Z axis with core cooled ball screw, programmable drop tank, 3r chuck, through spindle flushing etc.

We also have a loaded multi pallet Matsuura HMC with FCS tombstones for machining moldbases, gun drilling, slides, and inserts. CNC lathe, CNC saw, tig welding equipment etc

Design work is done in Solidworks, and programming is done with Mastercam 2018 inside solidworks (MCFSW).

Preferred skills and experience:

-Experience building high value, multi cavity class 101 plastic injection molds
-Modern CNC machining and programming techniques
-Experience milling and burning parts to tolerances of +/- .0002" or tighter and the ability to perform inspection on such parts
-Familiarity with Zero point work holding and programming methods, FCS preferred
-Multi axis, multi plane, multiple work offset programming and machining
-Electrode design and machining (copper and graphite)
-In process inspection using probes
-Understanding of thermal drift, machine geometries, tolerance stack up etc.
-Working with in house molding department to achieve required tolerances, reliability etc.
-Background in tool design or injection molding/processing a substantial asset

$70-90k+/yr depending on experience
