New half Nut insert want to use the not worn chipped end of lead screw. Was thinking cut the ends and flip 180. Drill and press in 1/4" pilot bevel and continuous mig weld? Screw 1 1/8 and not hardened. Bob

Look in the Southbend forum for lead screw repair. This is done on Southbends. I think they usually drill/bore, turn, press fit and pin when flipping the lead screw.

Does your machine the style without backlash? Most mills have a two piece half nuts for backlash adjustment.
