Hello there,

The electrics and hydraulics are involved (for me). I'm making progress. Much credit goes to this site. Thank you!

In what year might this machine have been built in?

A few holes are metric (attachment to the backing board in the electrical enclosure and the way cover/wiper bolt holes.

This is from the distribution box; knee.

I don't think you'll easily find out. That machine was built in the UK by CVA. CVA were a manufacturer in their own right, that acquired the rights to manufacture K&T machines in 1947. In 1957 K&T bought some shares in CVA, then in 1966 bought out CVA entirely. The name was changed to Kearney and Trecker-C.V.A. in 1960. Your machine probably dates from 1960 - 1966.

I have a 2D from K&T CVA that dates from 1961, confirmed as I have the original correspondence. The style of label on my 2D matches yours. The serial numbers in the book online are only for US manufactured machines. The "sales number" of my machine is 78632, so I'd guess yours is early 1961 or late 1960.

Thanks PaulO!

Question. I guess I could google, but:

Is your electricity at 50hz? Is my machine (running at 60hz) running faster than yours?

Thx

Yes our electricity is at 50Hz, so your machine will be running faster. I know that for the 2D they had two different speed plates for 50Hz/60Hz operation, and we had to put up with 5/6 of the spindle speed in the UK.

I had quite a few dealings with " Wright " in the past. They specialised in coolant pumps and portable grinding machines. I fitted a few of their grinding heads to Plano-mills to make them into slide ways grinders and a couple of a different style of head to Hor-bores to make them into orbital grinding machines. I suppose they are long gone now.

Regards Tyrone.

My '75 serial book on goes up to '58 on CVA - they mostly built E and CE mills up to then, commencing in 1949

The "E" K&T was an odd ball that never caught on here with every thing opposite on column from all the rest
