Assigning sockets with Fanuc 31i

Hello -

We have a horizontal boring mill with a Fanuc 31i control and it has a 120 pocket tool magazine. I want to assign tool numbers to sockets. Currently, if I call T68, it picks-up whatever is in socket 68.

Is there a way to assign tool numbers to socket numbers on a Fanuc 31i? Or any Fanuc control for that matter. We also have 15 series and 16 series...

Horizontals are almost always pocket specific as opposed to random pocket. In other words, pocket 1 will always be tool 1 and so forth. Some verticals are random pocket and on those you can designate which pocket will hold which tool. Why do need to designate what pocket holds which tool? Just put your tool in whatever pocket and leave it there. Are you using tool pre-call in your programs?

The method of assignment and what can be done in the assignment is controlled by the machine tool builder, not Fanuc.
