    Hello.

I am having problems with a Brigdgeport Interact 2 Series II with a TNC 151 control (1988 machine).

The error message "Y MEASURING SYSTEM DEFECTIVE A" appears when the power enable button is pressed.
This is not a code that is in the fault finding section of the manual. Anyone knows what this means?

The voltage reading at the trip switch for the XYaxis is only giving a constant 25 volts, but it is only receiving 25 volts from the controlling relay. When the power enable button is pressed it gets the full 110 volts for an instant then falls back to 25 volts, holding the power enable button in makes no difference.
So far we think that we have traced it back to the computer control as this appears to feed the relay which operates the XY trip switch.

The XY trip switch has been replaced and the relay swapped with another but this makes no difference to the machine, axis drive motors are also cold.

We have had a few problems over the last month or so and have had to reload the machine parameters twice. When drip feeding longer programmes the memory fills up but then dumps the rest of the programme so you find line 2500 has become 5000 and the machine is lost.

The problems may be related and I suspect the computer control is playing up but hope that it is something simple as it cost approximately £1000 for an exchange unit about 10 years ago.

All help gratefully received. Making things not fixing them is more my cup of tea.

Derek,I was at an Interact on Saturday with the same problem only on the Z axis.
Swap the encoder cables on the back of the Heidenhain unit and see if the message changes to another axis.In my case it was the encoder/cable,but I think I was getting the message on power up.
    Where in Scotland are you?

    Hi Graham,

We are in Glenrothes, Fife. Local to yourself.

I swapped the Y feed for the Z feed on the Heidenhan unit and the message changed to "Z MEASURING SYSTEM DEFECTIVE A".

    Start up procedure:-
1.Switch on power on machine cabinet.
2."Memory Test" then all red leds come on.
3."External DC voltage missing" message appears for an instant and goes out as normal.
    4."Power interupted"
    5.Press "CE" button
    6.Now getting "Z MEASURING SYSTEM DEFECTIVE A".
and partial screen for the pass over xy and z axis.

Big thanks for the pointer Graham.

I'll get our man with a meter to check out the cable and post once done.

    Cheers
    Derek

    Machine is now working.

When I was cleaning the machine prior to checking out the connections to the Y drive motor I tied a couple of cables together to keep them clear and moved the table forward by turning the drive by hand.
Out of curiosty I switched the machine back on and it started no problem. It is currently dry running through a programme with no problem so far.
Tying the cables out of the road is the most likey reason it has started as moving the drive motors by hand was previously tried without success. All we have to do now is find the broken wire or dodgy connection.

    Derek

Spoke to soon, problem back again and machine stationary.

Machine now repaired and working again.

It was the encoder that was faulty.
