Hole Saw Revisited

After the thread a couple of weeks ago about using a hole saw in a VMC I came up with another use for one today. I have a job running that takes a 1'x 2' sheet of .1875" 6061 and puts 50 3/8th holes and 90 4-40 tapped through holes. It then gets re-fixtured and cut into 10 mounting plates. Somewhere between 250 and a 1000 4-40 holes I will break a tap - usually in the middle of a plate. Instead of pulling the plate off and trying to get the broken tap out, I just use a small hole saw and drill around it (so I get the broken tap out of the way and identify the fubar piece) and then change the tap out and restart the program). Works like a charm for this.

Most of the stuff that I do is metric and I use form taps on those things whenever possible, but the customer called last Friday in a panic and wanted the order moved up 3 weeks so no time to order any in. I have to make do with the regular taps that I had in the bin.
